biography

Canadian, b. 1974, based in Berlin, Germany

A sculptor, painter, and animator, Shannon Finley creates works that reflect a strong interest in geometric abstraction. Working across multiple platforms, Finley explores the way a defined aesthetic can translate to various forms of media. His works on paper, sculptures, and video animations all evince a hard linearity, with patterns composed of sharp angles and geometric forms.

Though the works appear abstract at first glance, upon closer inspection they reveal an interest in representational imagery, with geometric forms giving way to human-like figures. Using a varied palette, from bold, bright colors, to deep shades of blue, red, and green, Finley pushes the boundaries of painting, using color to create an optical depth in his work that is not often seen in two-dimensional paintings. Finley's work has been exhibited extensively throughout the United States and Europe.

You see the neons always kind of glowing through, or the colors glowing through. That came from me just looking at, where do images get there power from these days?
